BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2016) - On Saturday, the No. 8 LIU Post men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to beat Queens College, 2-0, in its 2016 East Coast Conference opener at Pioneer Soccer Park.
In his return from injury, senior back
Joey Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) netted the deciding goal, while also assisting on the Pioneers' (6-0, 1-0 ECC) second tally of the afternoon.
Forgaard broke the scoreless tie in the 72nd minute. He settled a low cross from
Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark) and finished into the left corner of the net for the game's first goal.
Then, in the waning seconds of the contest, Forgaard dispossessed a Queens' (3-1-2, 0-1 ECC) defender, and played a quick touch to
Sean Collins (Sowerby Bridge, England) in the box. From there, Collins found sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) for the one-timer, extending LIU Post's lead to 2-0.
Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made two saves for the Pioneers, en route to earning his fourth-consecutive shutout. He has not allowed a goal in his last 297:29 of action.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad are back in action Tuesday (Sept. 20), when they welcome in Philadelphia University for a non-conference tilt at 3 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park.
