BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2016) - The No. 8 LIU Post men's soccer team defeated East Coast Conference foe University of Bridgeport, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The win improves the Pioneers to 8-0 and 2-0 in league play. Meanwhile, the Purple Knights slipped to 0-7 and 0-2 against ECC opposition.
Sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) put the green and gold on the board in the 11th minute. He headed a
Harry Pearse (London, England) corner kick past Bridgeport sophomore keeper Juan Munoz (Bogota, Colombia) to give LIU Post a 1-0 edge.
Ledula added to the Pioneers' lead in the second half. In the 66th minute, he broke into the 18-yard box and flicked a shot over Munoz, widening the hosts' advantage to 2-0.
Pearse, who assisted on the opening tally of the contest, capped off the scoring in the 76th minute. After receiving a pass from
Sean Collins (Sowerby Bridge, England), he dribbled in and fired a shot into the mesh for the goal.
The Pioneers outshot the Purple Knights by an overwhelming 6-to-1 margin (36-6) in the match. They also earned 14 corner kicks to Bridgeport's two.
Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) kept his scoreless streak intact, making two saves for LIU Post. He has not allowed a goal in his previous 387:29.

Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers now begin a five-game road trip, starting next Saturday (Oct. 1) in Wilmington, Del. at Wilmington University. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
