BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2017) - On Sunday, the LIU Post wrestling team won two of its three duals on Long Island Wrestling Day, hosted at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.

The Pioneers dominated East Stroudsburg University (30-16) and the College of Mount Saint Vincent (47-3), before dropping a 37-8 decision to Division I powerhouse Duke University.

LIU Post 30, East Stroudsburg 16
Tied 10-10 at the midway point of the match, the Pioneers won four of the final five bouts to secure their their third victory of 2016-17 against a regional opponent.

Junior Ed Ramirez, Jr. (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Logan McGinn (Medford, N.Y.) each majored their opponent at 165 and 197, respectively. Ramirez, Jr. claimed a 12-1 win against Blake Cohen (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), while McGinn was a 10-2 victor over Brandon Steele (Bethlehem, Pa.).

In the heavyweight match, junior James Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y.) needed just 46 seconds to pin Daniel Makagon (Old Bridge, N.J.).

Earlier in the contest, freshman Anthony Sparacio (North Babylon, N.Y.) majored Francesco Palagruto (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), 18-6, at the 133-lb. weight class. Two bouts later, senior T.J. Fabian (Wading River, N.Y.) pinned Pierre Liciaga (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) in 1:15 at 149.

Despite losing the first bout of the dual, the Pioneers were awarded three wins via forfeit and cruised to the victory.

Junior Matt Langan (Wantagh, N.Y.) and freshman Bobby Pease (Medford, N.Y.) individually teched Cristian Hilario (Haverstraw, N.Y.) and David Bell (Fairless Hills, Pa.) by 18-0 and 16-0 scores at the 141- and 184-lb. disciplines.

In the 149-lb. weight class, freshman Kyle Bhojwani (Valley Stream, N.Y.) opened his collegiate career on a high note, defeating Brendon Hall (Hackensack, N.J.), 13-9.

Red-shirt junior Jackson Mordente (Farmingville, N.Y.) recorded his first fall of the year at 157, pinning Patrick Polintan (Hartsdale, N.Y.) in 1:33. Sophomore Monair McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) also won by fall at heavyweight with a pin of Harryston Myrtil (Central Islip, N.Y.) in 4:17.

LIU Post 8, Duke 37
In the Pioneers' (7-3) lone loss of the day, the green and gold took a pair of bouts off the Blue Devils (2-2), who were one of two Division I programs at the event.

At 157, Mordente wrestled to a 5-0 victory against Joey Abbate (Tracy, Calif.). Then, at 165, Ramirez, Jr. earned a 16-1 technical fall win over Michael Wright (Edmond, Okla.).

In the 133-lb. bout, Sparacio came back to force overtime against Cole Baumgartner (Jefferson City, Mo.), but eventually lost 4-2 in the sudden-victory period.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and his LIU Post squad return to the mat on Saturday (Jan. 14), when they face Ithaca University at noon in Ithaca.
