Sparkill, N.Y. – Sophomore
Alice Schonfeldt tallied the only goal as the #12 LIU Post women's soccer team earned its fourth-straight victory with a 1-0 result against ECC rival St. Thomas Aquinas College at Spartan Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Pioneers move to 13-1-1 on the season and are 6-0 in conference play. The Spartans slip to 4-8-1 on the year and 2-5-0 in ECC action.
Despite outshooting the hosts 7-4 in the first half, LIU Post failed to corner and entered halftime deadlocked in a scoreless tie.
But the breakthrough would come two minutes after the restart when senior
Kristen Breihof took the corner and played a cross into the box where a waiting Schonfeldt would head homer her seventh goal of the season. The midfielder's goal would prove to be the only tally of the match and the game-winner.
Junior
Hillevi Eklow 13-1-1 was credited with three saves, while STAC's Courtney Dumain made eight saves.
In the end, LIU Post severely outshot the Spartans by 16-5 margin and won eight corners compared to STAC's one.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, October 25 when they welcome ECC rival NYIT to Pioneer Soccer Park for a 1:00 p.m. kick off. Live stats for the match will be available
