BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The fourth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team suffered a 2-1 defeat by seventh-ranked Pace in Northeast-10 action on Tuesday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Setters (10-1, 4-1 NE-10) opened the scoring just into the 14th minute as Carly Corbett fed Jane Kasparian for the score.

Just under five minutes later at the 17:48 mark, junior forward Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) finished a pass by freshman Sammy Bell (Milingave, Glasgow, United Kingdom) past the Setter goalie to knot the score at 1-1.

Neither side would find the back of the cage for the remainder of the first half despite the Pioneers (7-2, 4-2 NE-10) outshooting Pace 10-2 in the half and being awarded nine penalty corners to the visitor's two.

Two minutes and 40 seconds into the second half, the Setters broke the tie. The scoreboard read the same for the rest of the contest as Pace upset the green and gold.

Overall, LIU Post outshot Pace 17-5 (14-3 on goal) and notched 16 penalty corners to the Setters' seven.

Lesly Sanchez Alvarez was too much between the pipes for the Pioneers as she turned aside 11 of their shots while allowing just one goal.

The Pioneers look to bounce back on Thursday when they head to West Chester, Pa. to face the fifth-ranked Rams at 4 p.m.
