No. 7 Men's Lacrosse Drops 12-5 Decision to No. 3 Merrimack

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2017) - On Saturday, the No. 7/8 LIU Post men's lacrosse team fell by a 12-5 final to No. 3/3 Merrimack College in a non-conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville.
Down 6-0 nearly six minutes into the second quarter, the Pioneers (2-2) tallied three of the final four goals of the half to cut the deficit to 7-3 at the break. Junior
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded a goal and an assist in the burst, while junior midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) netted a man-up tally.
However, the Warriors (1-0) stood tall and limited the green and gold to just two goals in the final 30 minutes. Sophomore goalie Edward Hellier (South Portland, Maine) made a game-high 14 saves for Merrimack in the win.

Frank Ranfone (Guilford, Conn.) scored a goal. Junior midfielder
Kris Alvarado (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added an assist and caused a pair of turnovers.

Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) won 11-of-21 faceoffs and scooped up 11 ground balls for LIU Post, which held a 39-37 edge in shots and a 36-34 advantage in ground balls.
Between the pipes, senior goaltender
Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) turned aside 11 shots for the Pioneers. He also collected six ground balls in the game.
