No. 16 Men's Lacrosse Falls to Chestnut Hill in Overtime, 7-6

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 11, 2017) - On Saturday, the No. 16/17 LIU Post men's lacrosse team suffered a 7-6 overtime defeat to Chestnut Hill College in an East Coast Conference showdown at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Griffins improved to 2-2 and 1-0 against ECC opposition.
Despite allowing the game's opening goal, LIU Post responded with four unanswered tallies in the first half to bring a 4-1 lead into the locker room. Freshman midfielders
Dan Foley (Carmel, N.Y.) and
Austin Guerrina (Longwood, Fla.) found the back of the cage just 47 seconds apart in the outburst. Junior midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal.
The Pioneers continued to maintain a three-goal lead (5-2) in the second half, until a four-goal response by the visitors put Chestnut Hill in front 6-5 with 8:55 left in the fourth quarter.
However, the green and gold got a late goal from sophomore attackman/midfielder
Frank Ranfone (Guilford, Conn.) to force overtime.
In the extra session, the Pioneers challenged Griffins' senior goaltender Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.), but Chestnut Hill broke through for the game-winner on a goal by Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada) with 1.4 seconds remaining.
Junior attackman
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.) led all players with a team-high four-point day (1 G, 3 A) for the green and gold. Ranfone tallied a pair of goals and had two ground balls.
Senior defenseman
Ryan Stern (Shoreham, N.Y.), junior midfielder
Kris Alvarado (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and freshman defenseman
Conor Tuturice (Easton, Pa.) each amassed four ground balls and one caused turnover. Junior defenseman
Ryan Baker (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) forced three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.
Between the pipes, senior goaltender
Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) made five saves for LIU Post. McDermott stopped 19 shots for Chestnut Hill.
In all, the Pioneers owned a commanding 42-28 advantage in shots and a 33-13 edge in ground balls. They also won 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) faceoffs and converted 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) clearing attempts.
