Sparacio Grapples to All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Mar. 11, 2017) - On Saturday, LIU Post freshman Anthony Sparacio (North Babylon, N.Y.) placed sixth in the 133-lb. bracket at the 2017 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.

His finish secured him a nod as an All-American, making him the second Pioneer wrestler (Joe Calderone) to receive the honor since the program returned in 2014.

Sparacio led off the final day of the tournament with a hard-fought 4-3 decision over Josh Walker of Upper Iowa.

However, Sparacio lost 7-1 to Wheeling Jesuit's Dustin Warner and 8-2 to Gannon's Carmine Ciotti in his next two bouts to finish sixth in the competition.

Sparacio completed the 2016-17 season at 23-10 overall, including a 14-3 mark in duals. Additionally, he posted a record of 15-7 at the 133-lb. weight class.
