YAPHANK, N.Y. (Mar. 19, 2017) - The No. 23 LIU Post baseball team came up short Sunday in a pair of losses to Le Moyne College in a non-conference doubleheader at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank.

The Pioneers (8-7) were blanked by the Dolphins (11-6) in both contests, falling by respective 2-0 and 6-0 scores.

Game #1: LIU Post 0, Le Moyne 2
In the opener, the Dolphins got the scoring started in the top of the first, when sophomore first baseman Nick Place (Towanda, Pa.) hit a sacrifice fly to give the visitors an early 1-0 advantage.

Then, in the fifth inning, Le Moyne doubled its lead, after junior outfielder J.T. Pittman (Ashland, Mass.) drew a walk with the bases loaded.

The Pioneers, who left 10 runners on base in the game, put a runner in scoring position in five separate innings, but were unable to scratch a run off Dolphins' pitching.

Sophomore pitcher James Varela (Levittown, N.Y.) took the loss in the decision. He scattered four hits, two runs and five walks with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.

Game #2: LIU Post 0, Le Moyne 6
The nightcap was dominated by Dolphins' starting pitcher Sam Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y.), who held the Pioneers hitless for seven innings.

Senior catcher Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) was the lone baserunner in the contest for LIU Post with a pair of walks.

Sophomore pitcher Nick Schoen (Hicksville, N.Y.) threw four innings of four-hit, three-run, four-walk, five-strikeout ball for the green and gold in the loss.
