Baseball Falls at Pace, 6-0
Box Score
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 7, 2017) - The LIU Post baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Tuesday in a 6-0 loss to Pace University in non-conference action at Finnerty Field.
The Pioneers (6-4) managed just three hits in the contest and left four runners on base.
Down 5-0 in the top of the seventh, the green and gold drew three consecutive two-out walks to load the bases. However, the visitors' rally attempt was stalled by Setters' (3-0) junior reliever Anthony Criscione (Bronx, N.Y.), who struck out sophomore outfielder
Joe Piscitelli (Levittown, N.Y.) to end the threat.
Senior pitcher
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) was saddled with his first loss of 2017 in the decision. He threw five innings of seven-hit, five-run (three earned), one-walk, five-strikeout ball.
Sophomore pitcher
James Varela (Levittown, N.Y.) contributed two innings of scoreless relief, while freshman pitcher
David Marmann (Jericho, N.Y.) scattered a hit and two walks in an inning of relief.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney and his LIU Post squad are back at it Wednesday (Mar. 8), when they take on Pace in their 2017 home opener at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
