BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2017) - Junior outfielder
Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) went 5-for-5 with two runs scored Monday to lead the LIU Post baseball team to a 10-2 win over Queens College in East Coast Conference action at the LIU Post Baseball Field.
He is the first Pioneer to record five hits in a game since former standout
Kyle Walker accomplished the feat against Dowling on Apr. 9, 2009.
Senior catcher
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) put the green and gold on the board in the bottom of the third with a one-out solo homer to right.
Three batters later, senior outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) added to the hosts' lead with an RBI triple, which plated Andreoli from second.
Then, in the fourth, the Pioneers (17-14, 9-5 ECC) capitalized on a pair of miscues by the Knights (11-16, 5-10 ECC) to widen the gap to 4-0.
Junior shortstop
Joe Spitaleri (Levittown, N.Y.) scored on a throwing error in the frame, while freshman first baseman
Zach Fritz (East Meadow, N.Y.) came home on a wild pitch.
In the sixth, Asbaty came through again for LIU Post, driving a two-out RBI double down the right-field line to make it a 6-1 game.
The Pioneers weren't done there. Andreoli and sophomore third baseman
Jimmy Mendyk (Massapequa, N.Y.) each lined an RBI hit in the seventh. Sophomore outfielder
Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Freshman pitcher
Noah Lorenzo (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tossed 7.2 innings of six-hit, three-walk, two-strikeout ball in the victory. Senior pitcher
Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.) hurled a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney and his LIU Post squad return to the diamond Wednesday (Apr. 19), when they host ECC rival University of Bridgeport at 3:30 p.m. at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.
