BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 22, 2017) - On Saturday, senior outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) provided the walk-off heroics with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to send the LIU Post baseball team to a thrilling 3-2 victory against East Coast Conference rival Molloy College at the LIU Post Baseball Field.
The Pioneers (19-15, 10-6 ECC) trailed 2-1 in their final turn at-bat, until senior catcher
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) earned a bases-loaded walk to level the score.
Daley then followed up Asbaty's game-tying walk with an RBI single to right, which plated sophomore pinch-runner
Joe Piscitelli (Levittown, N.Y.) for the game-winning run.
Earlier in the contest, the green and gold jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, after an RBI single by junior shortstop
Joe Spitaleri (Levittown, N.Y.) in the bottom of the second.
Spitaleri's run-scoring hit came as a result of a prolonged inning, as
Sal Geraci (Bayport, N.Y.) reached base on an error with two out to keep the inning alive for LIU Post.
Senior pitcher
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) threw a complete game in the victory, allowing four hits, two runs (one earned) and no walks with three strikeouts.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to action Sunday (Apr. 23), when they travel to New Haven, Conn. for a non-conference doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State University. First pitch is set for noon.
