CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May 5, 2017) - On Friday, the LIU Post men's lacrosse team had nine players recognized to the 2017 All-East Coast Conference Team, as announced by the league office.
The Pioneers' nine honorees, including four first-team selections, were the second-most of any team in the league.
Junior midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.), who was the team's leading goal-scorer (34) in 2017, earned his first-ever All-ECC nod with a first-team spot. Eight of his 34 tallies on the year came on the man-up, which are tied for the second in the conference.
Senior midfielder
Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.), junior midfielder
Kris Alvarado (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
sophomore midfielder
Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) joined Harned on the All-ECC First Team.
Galeotafiore and Farrell both finished in the Top-10 in the league this season in faceoffs won and faceoff winning percentage. Galeotafiore won 106-of-154 (68.8 percent) draws and amassed 62 ground balls, while Farrell boasted a success rate of .643 (126-of-196) on faceoffs and collected the second-most ground balls (76) in the ECC.
Alvarado consistently drew the mismatch with the short stick and helped the Pioneer defense in limiting the opposition to the second-lowest goals-against average (8.12) in the conference. He was also no stranger to finding the scoresheet, tallying two goals and four assists for six points.
Senior defenseman
Ryan Stern (Shoreham, N.Y.) was the green and gold's lone representative on the All-ECC Second Team. Stern, the team's primary long-stick midfielder, scooped up 42 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers for the Pioneers in 2017.
Lastly, the Pioneers had four players named to the All-ECC Third Team. They were senior defenseman
Shane Sweeney (Hicksville, N.Y.), junior defenseman
Ryan Baker (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), junior attackman
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.), freshman midfielder
Austin Guerrina (Longwood, Fla.).
Sweeney and Baker anchored a defensive unit that held opponents to the third-fewest goals allowed (131) in the ECC. It was Sweeney's second-consecutive selection to the All-ECC roster.
Trasacco ranked in the Top-10 in the league in assists (25) and points (50) and led the green and gold in scoring in his first season with the Pioneers. Guerrina, a two-time ECC Rookie of the Week, was the team's third-leading scorer with 40 points (29 G, 11 A).
