BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Seven different scorers found the back of the net as the eighth-ranked LIU Post women's soccer team shutout non-conference foe Nyack, 7-0, in its home opener at Pioneer Soccer Park on Thursday afternoon.
The Pioneers (3-0) dominated possession throughout the entire contest, but held just a 2-0 lead at the intermission. Freshman forward
Erin O'Connor (Setauket, N.Y.) continued her hot start in green and gold as she opened the scoring in the 14th minute off a feed from senior back
Alexandra Dencker (Newburgh, N.Y.). Shortly later, O'Connor dished out a feed to sophomore
Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute.
LIU Post held an overwhelming advantage in shots in the opening frame, outshooting the Warriors (0-3) 16-0. The second half was more of the same as the home squad registered a 17-0 shot clip over Nyack.
The five-goal second half was capped off by first career goals by freshmen
Sydney Pasquarella (East Northport, N.Y.) and
Laura Fernandez (Torrejon de Ardoz, Spain). Additionally, sophomores
Gabrielle Clark (Edmonds, Wash.) and
Veronica Saager (East Islip, N.Y.) each found the back of the net for their first markers of the 2017 season.
