BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post wrestling team earned a convincing victory in a dual meet with New York University, powering past the Violets with a 38-6 final Jan. 21.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 19-0 lead through the first four bouts behind a major decision victory (11-2) by freshman Nick Conetta at 125, followed by a decision victory (13-6) for sophomore Anthony Sparacio at 133 and two NYU forfeits at 285 and 141. The Violets got on the scoreboard with a decision victory (13-8) at 149 to make it 19-3.

NYU made it consecutive wins, earning three points by decision (6-0) at 157 to cut into the Pioneer lead, 19-6, with four events remaining. The Green and Gold responded at 165 however, when senior Jackson Mordente earned a convincing 11-2 major decision to put LIU Post up by 17 points. The Pioneers put the match out of reach with a pin by junior Dan Arkow at 174 and a successive forfeit by the Violets at 184. 

Sophomore Bobby Pease closed out the meet with another victory for the Pioneers, earning three points via decision at 197 to give the Pioneers the 38-6 final tally. 

LIU Post improves to 5-8 in dual meets this season with the victory while NYU drops to 9-6.

The Pioneers return to action Friday, Jan. 26, when they participate in the Kutztown University duals beginning at 6:00 p.m.
