BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Along with matching its season-high in goals scored in its 7-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University the No. 8 LIU Post field hockey team had two players record a hat trick in the same game for the first time in 2018 as senior
Emily Miller and sophomore
Sammy Bell both scored three goals Tuesday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
"I was really pleased to come away with another win and it's always nice when one person has a hat trick, let alone two," said head coach
Raenee Savin. "It was great to see us score seven goals and match our season-high so we will be hoping to carry this momentum into senior day Saturday."
The Pioneers seven goals matched their season-high which came on Oct. 1 it their 7-1 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College. LIU Post's win also capped off it's highest-scoring three-game stretch of the season now scored 15 goals in its most recent three games. It scored four in its win over Stonehill College on Oct. 28 and four in its win over Adelphi University on Oct. 25.

Bailey Martin also scored for the Pioneers. Miller led LIU Post in assists with two while junior
Taylor Brodsky added one. Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Vellis finished with six saves.
Miller's hat trick was her fourth of the season as she also scored three goals on Sept. 18 in LIU Post's 5-0 win over Southern Connecticut State, on Oct. 1 in the Pioneers' 7-0 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas, and on Oct. 17 in LIU Post's 6-0 win over the University of New Haven. She has scored in 12 games in 2018 and of those 12 games she has scored more than one goal six times. She has also had at least one assist in 10 of the Pioneers' games this season.
Bell's hat trick was her second of the season as she also had one in the Pioneers' 5-1 win over Franklin Pierce University on Oct. 18. She has also now scored in six-consecutive games and has scored more than one goal on four different occasions.
LIU Post out-shot the Owls 25-7. The Green and Gold also had 10 penalty corners to five by Southern Connecticut State.
LIU Post improved its record to 11-4 and 10-3 in the Northeast-10. The Pioneers' all-time record against the Owls moved to 19-8.
While the Owls scored the game's opening goal at 5:35 the Pioneers did not take long to respond as Bell tapped in a goal after receiving a pass from Miller from the right side of the net at 9:46 to put LIU Post on the scoreboard.
The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead at 10:59 as Miller drove up the field shot into the bottom right side of the net; at 12:53 she scored her second goal of the game and gave LIU Post a 3-1 lead after her shot from the right side of the circle lifted to the left side of the net.
It did not take long for the Green and Gold to build its lead after halftime as Bell shot to the back left corner after the ball rebounded off the goalies leg at 36:02. Bell would complete her hat trick at 38:38 after receiving an assist from Miller.
Miller completed her hat trick and gave LIU Post a 6-1 lead at 60:11 after driving up the field and shooting into the top left side; Martin scored the game's final goal off a Brodsky corner insert at 64:24 to give the Pioneers a 7-1 lead.
