BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 7 LIU Post women's lacrosse team came up short in non-conference action to No. 11/18 East Stroudsburg University, 17-7 to round out its regular season schedule at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium April 28.
The Pioneers recognized
Olivia Kirk and
Mackenzie Hitchcock for Senior Day, as the duo played in their final home regular season contest Saturday.
East Stroudsburg outmatched the Pioneers throughout the entire contest, limiting LIU Post to just two goals during the first half. Sophomore
Alyssa Mallery led the Green and Gold with four goals on the day, while classmate
Brianna Feldman added two goals and an assist. In goal, Kirk stopped 11 shots.
The Warriors scored the first four goals of the contest, keeping LIU Post off the board until the 11:56 mark of the opening stanza when Feldman tallied her first goal of the game. East Stroudsburg added two more goals before the end of the half and took a 6-2 lead into the intermission.
The Pioneers remained within striking distance in the first half however, cutting the deficit to three goals with 19:53 remaining, but the Warriors scored eight of the game's final nine goals to pull away late for the victory.
LIU Post will now turn its focus to the postseason as the Pioneers will host the East Coast Conference semifinal contest at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Thursday, May 3, taking on the winner of No. 4 seed Molloy College and No. 5 seed Roberts Wesleyan College.
