FLUSHING, N.Y. – Junior Dave Brehm homered to highlight an offensive onslaught for the LIU Post baseball team as the Pioneers completed the four-game sweep of Queens College with an 11-1 victory at Hennekers Stadium April 8.

The win marked the first conference sweep of the season for the Pioneers, helping the team improve to 10-2 in East Coast Conference play, good enough for second-place behind Molloy College in the standings.

Brehm and senior Ramger Iglesias tallied three hits apiece, with Brehm adding two runs batted in and two runs scored on the day. Juniors Michael Manzione and Michael Greene drove home three runs each, and Manzione and classmate Anthony Vaglica scored three runs as well.

On the mound, sophomore Julien Arcos earned his fourth victory with five innings of work, allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven. Sophomores Mike Lazos and Pat McCabe shut the door the rest of the way, allowing just one hit over four innings.

The Pioneers jumped out to a fast start, scoring three runs with two outs in the top of the first inning. Senior Rob Andreoli got the two-out rally started with a single down the right field line, and two batters later, Manzione drove home two runs with a double to right field. Greene added the final run with a single to right-center field as the Pioneers eventually batted around in the opening frame.

Queens got one run back in the bottom of the first on a two-out double to left field, but the Green and Gold added six runs in the third and fourth innings to break the game open. Greene drove home another run to open the scoring in the third, sending a single through the middle to score Brehm. Junior Joe Piscitelli singled home a run to close out the inning, but the damage was not done.

An Andreoli single in the top of the fourth eventually set the stage for an RBI-double by Vaglica. Following an RBI-single by Manzione, Brehm lifted a two-run home run to left field to help the Pioneers take a commanding 9-1 lead. The Green and Gold added two more runs in the eighth to cap off the sweep of the Knights.

The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, April 10 when they host East Stroudsburg University in non-conference action at 3:30 p.m.
