Manzione's two long balls accounted for four of the team's seven runs as the Pioneers defeated the Spartans by a 7-2 final. Senior
Ramger Iglesias remained hot at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored and junior
Jimmy Mendyk added two hits as well.
Giovanni Dingcong added two hits for the Spartans including his 13th home run of the season.
Sophomore Julian Arcos spun a gem for the Green and Gold on the mound, allowing one run on five hits over eight innings of work, striking out six in the process.
After taking a 2-0 lead on two Spartan errors, Manzione blasted his first home run to left field to bring home three runs, giving LIU Post a 5-0 advantage early. The same score line remained into the seventh inning before senior
Rob Andreoli drove home Iglesias with a sacrifice fly and Manzione capped off the Pioneer scoring with a lead-off homer to begin the eighth inning.
Dincong answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth and the Spartans got one more run in the ninth but the Pioneers hung on for another crucial regional win, ending the regular season with a 28-18 overall mark.
The Green and Gold now turn its sights to the postseason where the Pioneers enter the East Coast Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed. LIU Post will face No. 2 seed Molloy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 at Mitchel Field in Uniondale. A full ECC Tournament preview will be available on www.liupostpioneers.com this week.
