HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Highlighted by a pair of goals from graduate student
Lukas Ostermann and a clean sheet by senior goalkeeper
Oliver Hessner Hansen, the No. 23 LIU Post men's soccer team toppled the University of Bridgeport 3-0 in its first East Coast Conference (ECC) match of the season Saturday night at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Ostermann finished the match with two goals while sophomore
Paul Hein finished with one. Junior
Mike Sutton, freshman Javier Rehnberger and freshman
Atha Coutroumpas each added an assist while Hanson recorded a clean sheet with three saves.
As a team LIU Post recorded 11 shots and eight shots on goal to nine and three by the Purple Knights.
LIU Post got on the scoreboard quickly as it scored its first goal 5:12 seconds into the opening half; Hein scored his second goal of the season on a header to the far post after receiving a cross from Rehnberger 25 yards out.
Shortly after, Ostermann gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead with his sixth goal of the season in the 21
st minute; Sutton found with him a long ball that he chested down and shot down low. Neither side would score for the remainder of the half so the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half Ostermann picked up where he left off as he gave LIU Post a 3-0 lead in the 50
th minute; he scored his seventh goal of the season after touching down a long ball from Coutroumpas and fired it under the crossbar.
The Pioneers would have two more shots in the half and go on to win 3-0.
The win moves the Pioneers to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the ECC.
