BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – No. 16 LIU Post women's soccer suffered its first setback of the season Sunday when it fell to No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University 3-1 at the Bridgeport Women's Soccer Classic.

It was an even matchup on paper, as Southern New Hampshire held a slight edge in the shot category, 15-13, while both goalkeepers made five saves apiece. The Penmen garnered nine corners to just five by the Pioneers.

Southern New Hampshire capitalized on a Pioneer mistake early when Danielle Humphreys intercepted a back pass from the LIU Post defense and tallied her first goal of the season in what proved to be the lone goal of the opening 45 minutes.

The Penmen opened the second half with two shots on goal during the first four minutes and in turn, Southern New Hampshire goalkeeper Danielle Humphreys denied two attempts by the Pioneers moments later to keep the score 1-0. The lead extended for the 24th-ranked team after the Penmen broke free in transition as Humphreys found Sydney Carney with a thru bal to the middle of the box for the second tally of the afternoon.

The Pioneers were quick to respond, however, as it took less than six minutes for the Green and Gold to cut the deficit in half. The scoring strike came off the foot of freshman Kendra Oldroyd who blasted a shot from distance over Penmen goalkeeper Hannah Rose to get back withing one with 15 minutes remaining.

The shot from Oldroyd proved to be the final shot attempt of the afternoon for the Pioneers though as Southern New Hampshire's defense stifled the Pioneer attack down the stretch. The Penmen put the game out of reach for good with Humphreys second goal of the contest on a deflected cross during the 87th minute.

LIU Post will look to bounce back when they travel to Assumption College on Saturday, Sept. 8 for a non-conference tilt slated for 1:00 p.m.
