LINCOLN, Pa. – The LIU Post baseball team completed the series sweep of Lincoln University Sunday afternoon at Lions Field, picking up where it left off on Saturday by first earning a 14-5 victory then prevailing 16-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Pioneers accumulated 30 runs on the day and 76 runs in the series to start 4-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. Along with the Pioneers' 30 runs, they also had 28 hits, 23 RBI, nine stolen bases and four doubles.
Sophomore
Christopher Wasson led the way for LIU Post with five hits, four RBI, four runs and two stolen bases while senior
Dave Brehm contributed three hits, three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases. Sophomore
Jahsiah Greene added three hits, four runs and one RBI and freshman
Giovanni Ciaccio had two hits, four runs, three stolen bases and one RBI.
Senior
Mike Stiles and freshman
Joshua Loeschorn earned wins for LIU Post. Stiles struck out five, didn't allow a run and scattered three hits in six innings while Loeschorn struck out three in six innings.
Game One – LIU Post 14, Lincoln 5
The Pioneers dominated early in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after senior
Michael Manzione grounded out to third base and Wasson scored. LIU Post then took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second after senior
Jimmy Mendyk singled then advanced to second on the throw and Greene scored. Mendyk was next to score after Wasson singled up the middle.
LIU Post added four more runs in the top of the third and by the top of the sixth had taken a 12-0 lead after Wasson scored on a passed ball.
Lincoln scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Pioneers added a 13
th run in the top of the eighth after redshirt-junior
Andy Camilo grounded into a double play and Brehm scored. Senior
Anthony Vaglica filed out to left field in the top of the ninth and Greene scored; the Pioneers prevailed with a final score of 14-5.
Game Two – LIU Post 16, Lincoln 1
LIU Post raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first after Wasson singled through the left side and Ciaccio scored, Brehm singled to left and Wasson scored then senior
Michael Greene singled to left field and Brehm scored.
The Pioneers kept Lincoln scoreless and until the bottom of the fourth when they were up 8-0 and the Lions scored their only run of the game.
LIU Post went into the top of the ninth with a 13-1 advantage and ended with a final score of 16-1. The Pioneer's final run of the game and series came when senior
Ryan Dalton walked and Greene scored.
