CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior Julia Seader blasted two home runs during game two to help the LIU Post softball team sweep Assumption College and Ashland University during two games at THE Spring Games on Monday, March 4.
 
The Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the year with the two victories, downing the Greyhounds by a 6-1 final in the day's opener and took down the Eagles, 3-1 during the afternoon contest.
 
Sophomore Breanna Klaiber finished 4-for-5 (.800) at the plate with two doubles and two runs batted in. Seader added four hits as well, tallying two solo home runs and three runs scored, while junior Megan Sneeden added three hits and one RBI.
 
In the circle, junior Katie Humhej and senior Hannah Olshevski both went the distance for the complete-game victories. Both right-handers scattered seven hits and allowed just one run en route to the win.
 
Game One: LIU Post 6, Assumption 1
 
It was all LIU Post from the beginning in the opening contest of the day as junior Ashley Casazza reached safely on an Assumption error to lead off the bottom of the first and later came around to score on an RBI-single to center field by Klaiber. During the third inning, Klaiber drove home Seader with her first double of the day to give LIU Post a 2-0 advantage. A Greyhound error and a sacrifice fly by senior Leah Mele gave the Pioneers a four-run lead (4-0) after three innings.
 
Assumption got on the board during the top of the sixth inning with an RBI-single through the right side of the infield, but the Pioneers responded when junior Abbey Fortin drove home two runs with her first hit of the season. Humhej stranded two runners on base to keep the Greyhounds off the board in the top of the seventh to lead LIU Post to the game one win.
 
Game Two: LIU Post 3, Ashland 1
 
It was Seader leading the offensive efforts during game two, notching the first two Pioneer home runs of 2019. It was Ashland scoring first though, taking a 1-0 lead during the top of the first inning with an RBI single.
 
Seader responded during the bottom half of the frame with her first long ball of the day. Four batters later Sneeden ripped a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Fortin to give LIU Post a 2-1 lead after one inning. Olshevski took care of the rest inside the circle, shutting out the Eagles the rest of the way and Seader gave LIU Post an insurance run late with her second solo homer to give LIU Post the 3-1 victory.
 
The Pioneers will have Tuesday off before returning to the diamond on Wednesday, March 6 for two matchups against Felician University and Georgian Court University beginning at 11:15 am.
