CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following a record setting performance during an upset of No. 1 ranked Merrimack College, the New York Lizards of the Major League Lacrosse selected faceoff specialist
Connor Farrell with the 42nd overall pick during the fifth round of the 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Farrell has been unstoppable in the faceoff circle this season, leading Division II with a .885 winning percentage. In four games, Farrell has won 100 of 113 faceoffs, while also collecting 90 ground balls. His 90 ground balls and 22.5 ground balls per game also leads all Division II players this season and Farrell holds the top three single-game ground ball totals in 2019.
During the victory against the defending national champions, Farrell had a record-setting day, shattering two NCAA Division II records inside the circle. Farrell finished 34-of-37 on faceoffs, snapping the previous record of 31 faceoffs won by Davis & Elkins College's Kyle Durec on in 2017. Farrell collected 30 ground balls on his 34 victories, shattering the previous record of 27 ground balls by Pfeiffer University's Cody Lamond, also in 2017. Both marks are an NCAA-best across all three divisions this season.
The New York Lizards compete out of nearby James M. Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University, just 20 minutes from LIU Post. The Lizards finished the 2018 campaign with an 8-6 overall record, earning the No. 4 seed for the MLL Playoffs.
