NCBWA Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) announced its all-region awards Wednesday afternoon and LIU Post baseball head coach Mike Gaffney was honored as East Region Coach of the Year while four Pioneers were named all-region.
 
Freshman Joshua Loeschorn earned All-Region First Team honors while seniors James Varela, Anthony Vaglica and Michael Manzione were named to the second team.
 
Under Gaffney's guidance, LIU Post won 38 games which is a program record for season wins and captured its second East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship in three years to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. He was also named the ECC Coach of the Year.
 
LIU Post's .857 winning percentage in ECC play topped the previous mark of .800 set by Saint Thomas Aquinas College in 2017.
 
With a 24-4 record in ECC games, the Pioneers eclipsed the previous conference wins record of 22 set by Molloy College in 2011 and LIU Post in 2010.
 
Loeschorn adds to his collection of postseason honors as he was also named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-East Region First Team. He was named ECC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year along with being an ECC All-Conference First Team honoree.
 
Varela and Vaglica were both D2CCA All-East Region Second Team and ECC All-Conference First Team honorees. Manzione was also named ECC-All Conference First Team.
