Shawn McNamara assumed the head athletic trainer responsibilities at LIU Post in June 2012. 

McNamara spent the previous 13 years at Farmingdale State College, where he began as an assistant athletic trainer in 1999 before moving up to associate head trainer in 2009. He also served as the assistant facilities coordinator and was an Adjunct Professor for Weight Training and Conditioning.

McNamara has served in athletic training capacities at the U.S. Open Golf Championships in 2006 and 2009. He is also the inventor of the C.A.R.D. (Complete Ankle Rehabilitation Device).

McNamara is a New York State licensed athletic trainer and received his certification from the National Athletic Trainer’s Association in 2001.  In addition, he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Approved Clinical Instructor and is certified in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Outside of sports medicine, he serves as an adjunct professor at LIU Brooklyn in the athletic training program.

He received his B.S. in Physical Education from LIU Post and a M.S. in Exercise Science from Queens College.
