Thomas Asbaty is a right-handed catcher and outfielder from Randolph High School. Entering his third year as the starting catcher for the Rams, he has led them to a 35-20 overall
record and a 2011 Morris County Championship, earning All-Area First Team and All-County Second Team accolades last season. A left-handed batter, his career stats at Randolph include a .420 batting average with 16 doubles, 15 triples, 10 home runs, 56 RBI, 46 stolen bases, a .546 on-base percentage and a 1.325 slugging percentage.
Gaffney on Asbaty: “Thomas comes from New Jersey to help shore up the catching spot left by senior catcher
Anthony Corona. He is a hard hitting lefty catcher and outfielder who will look to continue the tremendous accomplishments that he attained at Randolph High School.”
Mike Castagnaro is a right-handed pitcher from St. Dominic High School. A two-year varsity player, he earned All-League honors in 2012, posting a 4-2 record with a 0.97 ERA, helping the Bayhawks to an 8-8 overall record. He plays summer ball for the Long Island Titans.
Gaffney on Castagnaro: “Mike comes to LIU Post from St. Dominics and the Long Island Titans where his success on the mound was highlighted by always being chosen to pitch the “big game”. His consistency and command of his pitchers will make him the same 'go to guy” at the college level.”
Ken Daley is a right-handed outfielder from North Shore High School. Entering his fourth season as a starter, Daley is an All-County player for the Vikings. He had a conference-leading .394 average with four doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, 19 stolen bases and a .494 on-base percentage. He has helped the Vikings to the playoffs each of the past three seasons. Daley is also an All-County football player.
Gaffney on Daley: “Ken is a talented outfielder from North Shore High School who will compete for an outfield position in his freshmen year. Ken is a hard hitting player with plus speed that makes him a threat on the bases and also a dependable outfielder who easily tracks balls in the gap.”
Jacob DeCarli is a right-handed pitcher from Haddam-Killingworth High School. A three-year varsity player, he earned All-Shoreline and Hartford Courant Fab 15 honors as well as All-State Honorable Mention. Last season, he struck out 100 batters in 81 innings, posting a 10-2 record overall. He led the Cougars to appearances in the 2011 Shoreline and State tournament, as well as a 2012 Class M runner-up finish.
Gaffney on DeCarli: “Jake is a solid right hand pitcher with a plus fastball and breaking pitch. He will compete for significant time as a freshman and projects to be a starter on the staff.”
Kyle Fagan is a right-handed catcher and shortstop from Wantagh High School. A two-year varsity player, he helped the Warriors to a 2010 County Championship. Last season, Fagan hit .425.
Gaffney on Fagan: “Kyle is a catcher and infielder who's versatility and athleticism will make him a valuable player in the line-up. He has recently become a force at the plate which will make him an outstanding player during his time at LIU Post.”
Dan Jagiello is a right-handed pitcher from West Islip High School. A three-year starter, Jagiello helped the Lions to a combined 24-12 record over the past two seasons, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2011. He plays summer ball for the Long Island Titans.
Gaffney on Jagiello: “Dan is a two way player who is going to find his time divided by pitching and the outfield as a freshman. We believe that he may find more time on the mound as his career develops but could be used in the outfield as well throughout his 4 years.”
James Long is a left-handed pitcher from Oceanside High School. A four-year varsity player, he helped the Sailors to a conference championship in his sophomore season. He plays summer ball for the Long Island Titans.
Gaffney on Long: “James will look to make an immediate impact on our staff as he continues to improve on his outstanding credentials that he attained in high school and summer leagues. We expect him to be a long term starter on the staff.”
Brian Tinney is a right-handed third baseman and pitcher from St. Anthony's High School. A two-year varsity player, he earned All-League honors following last season. He led the Friars to a 14-5 record and a league championship while batting .387 with 22 RBI and 19 stolen bases, along with a 7-2 record on the mound.
Gaffney on Tinney: “Brian is also a two way player who will find his home at 3rd base and on the mound. As a freshmen Brian will compete on the mound and get time at 3rd base. After his freshmen year Brian will hold down the 3rd base spot while also being a valued member of the pitching staff.”
