Bonneau, Casey Top All-Met Division II Men's Basketball Team
NEW YORK, N.Y. (April 21, 2012) --- Senior guard
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) and his coach, Chris Casey, were named the 2011-12 All-Met Division II men's college basketball player and coach of the year, respectively, Saturday by the Met Basketball Writers Assn
.
Joining Bonneau on the All-Met first team is teammate, junior guard
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.).
Also named to the first team were Ahmad Harris, Bloomfield; Rob Johnson, Adelphi; Leon Porter and Cory Quimby, both Dominican.
Named to the second team: John Petrucelli, Molloy; Nikola Otovic, Caldwell; Argelix Gil, Concordia; Richard Harkins, Adelphi; Matt Wafula, Bloomfield.
A senior guard from Middletown, N.Y., Bonneau led the East Coast Conference with 21.7 ppg (eight-best in the NCAA), led the Pioneers with 41 steals, and shot 42.9% from the floor and 38.2% from three-point range. A double-figure scorer in all his 29 games and the ECC player of the year for a second consecutive season, he finished his career with 1,196 points, 14th best on the all-time school list.
Casey guided the Pioneers to a 23-6 overall record and a second straight NCAA appearance in his second season as head coach. A former assistant at St. John's, Central Connecticut, St. Peter's, St. Francis-NY and his alma mater, Western Connecticut, he previously was the head coach at Rutgers-Newark.
The All-Met awards will be presented Thursday evening, April 26, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
