Men's Basketball Drops 102-82 Decision to Franklin Pierce

COLCHESTER, Vt. (Nov. 15, 2013) - On Friday, the LIU Post men's basketball team kicked off the Doubletree Doc Jacobs Classic with a 102-82 loss versus Franklin Pierce at the Ross Sports Center in Colchester, Vt. Five players scored double figures for the Pioneers in the contest.
Down 14-11 with just over 13 minutes to go in the first half, the Ravens (4-0) rolled off a 18-2 run over a span of 5:30 to take a 29-16 lead at the 7:44 mark. Junior forward Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman guard Ben Mead (Ipswich, Suffolk) combined to knock down three trifectas in the streak.
Shortly thereafter, the Pioneers (1-2), trailing by a 13-point margin (31-18), answered with a 7-0 spurt in a short stint of 3:14 to slice the deficit to 31-25. Senior forward
Vaughn Allen (New York, N.Y.) sparked it with a lay-up. Junior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) capped it by making one of two at the line.
But, FPU went into the break ahead by double digits (41-29), after collecting 10 of the period's final 14 points. Senior guards Curtis Christian (Harlem, N.Y.) and Andre Blackwood (Paterson, N.J.) each drilled a three-ball down the stretch to extend the Ravens' cushion before halftime.
During the second half, LIU Post was unable to close the double-figure gap, only coming as close as 41-31 on the stanza's opening bucket by Torres. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce opened up as much as a 29-point advantage with 13:20 remaining on a Christian lay-up off the fast break.
Junior forward
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) finished with 18 points, on 8-of-11 shooting, to pace the Pioneers' scoring efforts. Torres recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Sophomore guard
Akosa Maduegbunam (Hyde Park, Mass.) had 14 points, two boards, two assists, and a pair of steals. Allen added 12 points.
