Baseball Sweeps Bridgeport On Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 4, 2013) - On a day when the LIU Post baseball team honored its seniors for their effort and dedication to the program, it was seniors who led the Pioneers to two ECC wins, 6-0 and 6-5, over the University of Bridgeport on Saturday.
 
With the two wins, the Pioneers now sit at 16-28 on the season overall and 8-15 in conference play with one more game against Bridgeport to go in the 2013 season.
 
In the first game, the Pioneers put up four runs in the bottom of the third against Bridgeport starter Shaun Hancock. With two on, senior Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) singled through the left side of the infield to score senior Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) with the Pioneers first run. Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) followed with a run-scoring single of his own, plating Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.). Two batters later, Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) on an error by the second baseman that allowed both Herring and McKay to score.
 
The Pioneers scored two more in the fifth, again taking advantage of an error by the Purple Knights' second baseman, Brock Roggie. With two on, McKay grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed pinch runner John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) to score. Herring also came around to score as the Roggie was charged with a throwing error.
 
The Pioneers sent senior Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) to the mound and he was on a mission on senior day. He went all seven innings, allowing just three hits while striking out nine to earn his fourth win of the season.
 
In the second game, the Pioneers put up two quick runs against Bridgeport. With LIU Post up 1-0, Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.) singled to right center to score Herring.
 
In the bottom of the second, the Pioneers added three more. Herring smacked a double to left center to score Pimentel and Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.). McKay followed with a single to right that scored Herring.
 
Senior catcher Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) added two hits for the Pioneers.
 
The Purple Knights answered with two in the fourth and sixth and added one in the seventh but their comeback fell short as the Pioneers finished off the sweep.
 
Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, N.Y.) got the win, going 3 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and allowed three earned runs.
 
The Pioneers wrap up the 2013 season with a trip to Bridgeport on Sunday.
