BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2014) - An early goal from senior Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) was all the LIU Post men's soccer team needed Saturday, as the Pioneers took down East Coast Conference foe Bridgeport, 2-0, at Pioneer Soccer Park.

Austboe scored in the 12th minute to give the Pioneers (8-3-1, 4-1-1) a 1-0 lead that the defense held on to as LIU Post captured its third-straight win.

With the Pioneers attacking, junior Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) chipped the ball over a defender's foot, which graduate Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) sent on to Austboe, who was in the box and put it home for his 11th goal of the season.

LIU Post controlled the tempo in the first half, leading in both time of possession and shots. The Pioneers took 10 shots to the Purple Knights' (4-5, 3-3 ECC) four, while the green and gold won eight corner kicks to Bridgeport's zero. Junior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made two saves in the first 45 minutes, whereas Agustin Prados turned aside five shots for the visitors.

In the second half, the Pioneers turned it up defensively. They also took advantage of the Purple Knights' desperation late in the match. In the 87th minute, graduate Tom Bowen (Aberdovey, Wales, United Kingdom) chipped a pass from just outside the box that found the foot of junior Alfred Lindberg (Grabo, Sweden). Lindberg tapped it into the net for the insurance goal.

The Pioneer defense held the Purple Knights to just one shot in the second half as the back line fended off a potent Bridgeport attack.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 14), when they host ECC rival Dowling in a conference tilt at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
