DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2014) - The No. 22 LIU Post women's soccer team got a late goal from senior back Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) on Saturday, as the Pioneers upset No. 13 Mercy, 1-0, in an East Coast Conference clash in Dobbs Ferry.

As a result, LIU Post (12-1-1, 6-0-1 ECC) remains unbeaten in its last 13 contests, while Mercy's (14-2, 7-1 ECC) six-game win streak came to an end.

Both squads battled to a scoreless first half, with the defenses dominating most of the initial 45 minutes. The two teams got off five shots apiece, one of which went on goal for each side. Sophomore keeper Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) made one save in the first half.

In the latter stanza, the defenses continued to shut down the offenses for both teams. But, in the 67th minute, junior forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) found Bellone, who tallied her sixth goal of 2014.

Over the final 30 minutes of action, Mercy attempted five shots, but none were on target. The LIU Post defense stood tall and kept the Mavericks away from the net, capturing the 1-0 victory. Agnarsdottir secured her seventh clean sheet of the season in the process.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to action on Friday (Nov. 1), when they take on Roberts Wesleyan in an ECC battle in Rochester. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
