BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2014) - Despite being down early in the first half, the LIU Post women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to beat Wilmington, 4-1, in non-conference action at Pioneer Soccer Park on Thursday

The Pioneers (9-1) were led by junior Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway), who scored the first three of the four goals. Senior Morgan Kitton (Bellmore, N.Y.) added her first tally of the season late in the second half. The green and gold have now won nine straight dating back to Sept. 7.

With just over 10 minutes played in the first half, Wilmington (2-9) got in behind the LIU Post defense. Chandler Lages was able to chip the ball over a defender and Loran Wyrough snuck one by sophomore keeper Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) for the 1-0 lead.

The goal seemed to light a fire under the Pioneers, who then went on the offensive. In the 34th minute, sophomore Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) sent a cross from the far side to the near side, where senior Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) was waiting. Bellone then found a streaking Vistnes, who put a shot home for her first goal of the match, tying the game at 1-all.

Less than two minutes later, Bellone found Vistnes again with a solid cross. Vistnes took the pass and ripped one into the mesh for a 2-1 cushion.

LIU Post owned a 10-1 shot advantage and a 5-2 corner kick edge at halftime.

The latter stanza wasn't much different for the Pioneers. In the 80th minute, Bellone got the ball to Vistnes in the box, and the junior from Randaberg, Norway tucked one inside the near post for the hat trick, giving the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.

In the 82nd minute, Kitton gathered the ball along the near sideline and beat the defender all the way down to the goal. She then beat the Wildcats' keeper to the near side to cap LIU Post's scoring for the day.

Agnarsdottir earned her ninth win of the season, making one save and allowing the one goal.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to the pitch Saturday (Oct. 11), when they host East Coast Conference rival Bridgeport at Pioneer Soccer Park at noon.
