BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 6, 2014) - On Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced its Capital One Academic All-District Football Team, and LIU Post red-shirt senior defensive lineman
Dan Belfiore (Glen Cove, N.Y.) landed a spot on the District One ledger for Division II.
Belfiore, who boasts a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average in Accounting, will now be added to the national ballot for the chance to earn Academic All-America notice. The honor is the first of his collegiate career.
Nearing the conclusion of the regular season, Belfiore sits second in the Northeast-10 Conference and 29th in Division II in fumble recoveries (3). He has recorded 50 tackles on the year, seven of which have been for a loss. The Glen Cove native has also amassed three sacks, three forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries, a pass break-up and a blocked kick to this point.
LIU Post last had a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District selection in 2011. That season, former offensive lineman
John Siopa (Centereach, N.Y.) and defensive tackle
Lou Scala (Coram, N.Y.) were recognized.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District notice, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or better on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore athletic standing or greater at his/her respective institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Belfiore and the Pioneers return to the gridiron Saturday (Nov. 8), when they host NE-10 rival Bentley in their 2014 regular-season finale. The opening kickoff from Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium is set for noon.
