Belfiore Dubbed Capital One Football Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas (Dec. 3, 2014) - LIU Post red-shirt senior defensive lineman Dan Belfiore (Glen Cove, N.Y.) has been tabbed as a Capital One Academic All-America second-team selection, it was revealed Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Belfiore is the ninth student-athlete in program history to be honored as an Academic All-American. Former wide receiver Jim Byrne last earned the notice in 1993, receiving first-team recognition.

In 12 starts at defensive tackle for the green and gold in 2014, Belfiore, who boasts a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average in Accounting, accrued 65 tackles (8.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two recoveries and a blocked kick.

His four strips and two fumble recoveries presently sit 15th and 51st, respectively, in the Division II statistical ranks. Meanwhile, in the Northeast-10 Conference, the Glen Cove native placed sixth in fumble recoveries and 12th in sacks.

During his four-year career at LIU Post, Belfiore recorded 188 tackles in a span of 42 games, along with 12.5 sacks.
