BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2014) - The LIU Post women's soccer team had four different goal scorers Saturday, as the Pioneers coasted to a 6-1 win over East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas at Pioneer Soccer Park.
Junior
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) paced the Pioneers (4-1, 1-0 ECC) with three goals on three shots. Sophomore
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden), junior
Morgan Miller (West Nyack, N.Y.) and freshman
Alex Lynn (Sydney, Australia) also scored for the green and gold.
The Pioneers outshot the Spartans (4-1-1), 22-3, getting off 11 shots in each of the two halves. LIU Post also held a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.
Backman started the scoring for the Pioneers off a free kick in the 31st minute. The sophomore bent a shot from about 22 yards out and kept it just inside the left post for the 1-0 edge. Less than nine minutes later, Vistnes tallied her first marker. Senior
Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) sent a corner kick into the box and St. Thomas Aquinas' goalie Amanda Volpe was able to get a hand on it, but Vistnes was there to knock home the rebound, giving the green and gold a 2-0 lead.
In the 41st minute, Miller was able to beat Volpe to make it 3-0, a lead which the Pioneers took into the break.
The second half was no different, as Vistnes scored less than four minutes into the stanza, and again just over three minutes after for a 5-0 cushion. The junior then spun around a defender and sent the shot into the mesh for her third marker of the contest.
The Spartans got on the board in the 55th minute when Nisha Flinn put one past LIU Post's sophomore goalie
Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland).
In the 65th minute, the freshman Lynn scored her first collegiate goal when she was able to drive home a rebound off a corner kick for the Pioneers' sixth goal.
