ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2014) - On Tuesday, the LIU Post women's soccer team continued to roll, beating East Coast Conference rival Molloy, 2-0, at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre.
The Pioneers (5-1, 2-0 ECC) were led by the duo of sophmore
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) and junior
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway). The pair each scored a goal for the second time in as many games. Vistnes now has five markers over her last three contests.
Just 26 seconds before halftime, LIU Post was awarded a penalty kick after after Molloy (0-5-1, 0-2 ECC) committed a foul in the box. The Pioneers were threatening, as they connected on a few touch passes before the Lions took down freshman
Klara Berggren (Stockholm, Sweden). Backman stepped up and drove the ball past the Molloy keeper, Nicole DellaPorta. The sophomore is now 2-for-2 in PK attempts.
At the break, the green and gold held a 7-5 shot advantage and a 3-0 corner kick edge. Sophomore keeper
Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) made her only save in the first 45 minutes.
Later, in the second half, the Pioneers were awarded a free kick from about 20 yards out. Vistnes put her left foot into it and bent the shot in to the lower left corner of the goal for the 2-0 advantage.
Agnarsdottir posted her third clean sheet of the season, making one save in the process. DellaPorta stopped five shots for the Lions.
