BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2015) - On Thursday, LIU Post women's soccer senior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) broke the program's career points record, as the Pioneers shut out Philadelphia University, 3-0, in non-conference action at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Pioneers (9-2-2) were in control from the opening kick and got on the board in the 28th minute. Sophomore midfielder
Klara Berggren (Stockholm, Sweden) sent a pass to Vistnes, who finished for the record-breaking goal. The marker was her 13th of the season.
That would be all the scoring in the first 45 minutes. Junior keeper
Felicia Orderud (Gothenburg, Sweden) went untested in the opening half.
In the second half, Vistnes fed a pass to freshman forward
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden), who chipped a shot inside the left post for the 2-0 edge in the 61st minute.
In the 65th minute, the Rams (5-8) had their best scoring opportunity. Senior forward Carla Chmielewski sent a high shot on goal that Orderud punched out for her lone save.
Less than a minute later, Berggren notched a goal of her own. Sophomore forward
Sarah Kang (Coram, N.Y.) sent a cross into the box that Berggren volleyed inside the left post for the goal.
The Pioneers outshot the Rams, 16-3, in the contest and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch on Saturday (Oct. 17), when they host Mercy College in an East Coast Conference battle at Pioneer Soccer Park. The opening kick is slated for noon.
