BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2015) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's soccer team defeated Mercy College, 1-0, in an East Coast Conference match at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Pioneers (10-2-2, 2-1-2 ECC) have now won three straight games, and held opponents scoreless in back-to-back contests.
In the 31st minute, sophomore forward
Klara Berggren (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman forward
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) used give-and-go passing to set up the Pioneer goal.
Huntzinger passed to Berggren, who then sent a pass back to Huntzinger. The freshman then tucked the shot just inside the far post for the tally.
LIU Post and Mercy (5-5-2, 3-3 ECC) both got off four shots in the first half. Junior keeper
Felicia Orderud (Gothenburg, Sweden) made one stop in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Pioneer defense kept the Mavericks off the board to preserve the shutout. LIU Post didn't allow a shot in the game's final 45 minutes.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to the pitch on Friday (Oct. 23), when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in an ECC battle in Brookville. The opening kick is slated for 2:30 p.m.
