BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2015) - A four-goal second half propelled the 11th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team to a 6-1 win over Mercy College in East Coast Conference action at Pioneer Soccer Park on Saturday.

The Pioneers (9-1-2, 6-0 ECC) broke through just 8:03 into the contest. Sophomore forward Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) fed a cross to senior midfielder Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway), who headed a shot into the net for the 1-0 lead.

In the 29th minute, graduate midfielder Tom Bowen (Aberdovey, Wales, U.K.) sent a free kick into the box that graduate back Seb Baxter (Saffron Walden, England) put into the mesh with a diving header.

The green and gold outshot the Mavericks (4-8-1, 2-4-1 ECC), 7-4, in the game's opening half. Junior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made two saves in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Pioneers turned up the pressure. Forgaard notched his second marker of the game in the 67th minute, before Mercy got on the board in the 69th minute.

From there, it was all LIU Post. Senior forward Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) tucked a free kick inside the left post in the 72nd minute. Fellow senior forward Alfred Lindberg (Grabo, Sweden) scored in the 84th minute off assists by sophomore midfielder Harry Pearse (Berkshire, London, England) and sophomore forward Neil Feminella (West Islip, N.Y.).

Then, in the 87th minute, Pearse collected a goal of his own, off an assist from junior forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavic, Iceland), to cap the scoring.

Malmstrom made two saves in the second half to earn his eighth win of 2015.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers are back in action on Friday (Oct. 23), when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in an ECC battle in Brookville. The opening kick is slated for noon.
