BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2015) - On Friday, the 10th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team defeated Roberts Wesleyan College, 4-3, in East Coast Conference action at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Pioneers (10-1-2, 7-0 ECC) used three first-half goals and a late goal in the second half to remain unbeaten in their last 10 contests.

In the first half, sophomore forward Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, UK) got the green and gold on the board in just the sixth minute. Senior forward Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) found Lampkin with a pass, and the sophomore finished.

Just over 10 minutes later, the Redhawks (6-6-2, 2-4-1 ECC) responded. Daniel Maxwell sent a pass into the box that Sam Moody flicked just inside the left post to even the score at 1-all.

In the 37th minute, Forgaard scored a goal of his own off an assist from sophomore midfielder Harry Pearse (Berkshire, London, England) to give LIU Post a 2-1 advantage.

With time winding down before halfitme, the Pioneers were on the counter after a failed corner by Roberts Wesleyan. Forgaard found junior forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavic, Iceland) in the middle of the field, and the junior found the mesh for the 3-1 lead.

In the second half, the Redhawks came out shooting. In a five-minute span, Roberts Wesleyan scored a pair of goals to tie the game at 3-all. Malcolm Shaw and Logan Wood each had markers.

Then, Forgaard found senior forward Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) with a through ball that Ruiz bent inside the right post for the eventual game-winning goal.

Roberts Wesleyan wouldn't go quietly, however. Just over a minute later, Garth Brungard sent a shot on goal that junior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) saved.

Later, in the 88th minute, Shaw sent a header on goal, but Malmstrom turned it aside for one of his six saves on the afternoon.

The Pioneers outshot the Redhawks, 20-16, in the contest, but both teams sent nine shots on goal.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch on Sunday (Oct. 25), when they host Daemen College in an ECC battle in Brookville. Prior to the game, the team will be honoring the seven graduating seniors for their contributions to the program. The opening kick is slated for 2 p.m.
