VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Dec. 2, 2015) - The LIU Post football team recently had three seniors chosen to participate in the Dream Bowl on Monday, Jan. 18 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. They were
Sean Binckes (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
Mike Sollenne (Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Golden Ukonu (North Babylon, N.Y.).
Binckes appeared in 10 games as the starting tight end for the Pioneers in 2015. He had 48 receptions for 428 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 8,9 yards per catch. Binckes' 428 receiving yards were second-most among tight ends in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Binckes, who repeated as an All-NE-10 first-team selection for his efforts, broke the program's career record for receptions with 151. He also still holds LIU Post's single-game mark for touchdowns, after a four-TD performance at Saint Anselm College on Nov. 1, 2013.
Binckes completed his four-year career with 1,555 yards and 16 touchdowns. He averaged a lifetime 10.3 yards per catch and 37.9 yards per game.
Sollenne and Ukonu each started all 11 contests on the offensive line at the left tackle and right guard positions, respectively. They helped to protect the pocket and open gaps for a squad that led the NE-10 in passing and ranked third in rushing.
Sollenne, an All-NE-10 first-team choice in 2015, appeared in 32 games in the trenches for the Pioneers over the course of his career. Meanwhile, Ukonu played in 22 contests in two seasons (2011, 2015) on the offensive line for LIU Post.
The Dream Bowl will be held on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend to honor Dr. King's spirit and to recall his "I Have A Dream" motto. It allows every player to display their full skills and talents without limitation.
