PALM COAST, Fla. (Mar. 1, 2015) - On Sunday afternoon, the No. 3/2 LIU Post men's lacrosse team wrapped up play at the North Florida College Lacrosse Faceoff with a 13-10 win over Lynn at Matanzas High School.

Leading 2-1 after one quarter of play, the Pioneers (4-0) outscored the Fighting Knights (1-1) by a 6-2 count in the second period to carry an 8-3 lead into the break. Senior midfielder Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) had three goals in the quarter, while assisting on a Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) man-up tally. Junior attackman Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) tacked on an unassisted even-strength marker to close out the half.

LIU Post didn't let up off the gas pedal out of the intermission. Five different players found the back of the cage in the third quarter for the green and gold to widen their cushion to 13-4. Junior attackman Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) led the way with a goal and an assist. Bellando, Beccaris and freshman midfielder Kris Alvarado (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each contributed a tally to the effort, as well.

Lynn battled back in the final seven minutes of the contest, scoring six unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 13-10, but LIU Post staved off the rally for its fourth-consecutive win.

Drost finished with a team-high four points (3 G, 1 A). Bellando collected three goals, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Beccaris and Slane racked up three points (2 G, 1 A) apiece.

Senior defenseman Matt Scalera (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scooped up five ground balls in the victory. Fellow senior defenseman Steve Gruse (New Fairfield, Conn.) and red-shirt sophomore defenseman Nick Ancona (Great River, N.Y.) both caused two turnovers. Ancona also amassed two ground balls. Junior goaltender Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) made six saves in just over 54 minutes between the pipes.

For the game, the Pioneers owned a 37-28 advantage in shots and a 32-25 edge in ground balls. In addition, the green and gold were 15-of-27 (55.5 percent) on faceoffs and a near-perfect 19-of-21 (90.4 percent) on clears.

Head Coach John Jez and his LIU Post squad now return home to get ready for a re-match of last year's NCAA Division II National Semifinal at No. 4/3 Adelphi on Saturday (Mar. 7). The opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
