WATERBURY, Conn. (Mar. 25, 2015) - Eight different players found the back of the cage for the Pioneers on Wednesday, as the No. 7/6 LIU Post men's lacrosse team defeated Post, 15-9, in non-conference action at LaMoy Field.

Junior attackman Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals on the afternoon, while fellow junior attackman Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied three goals. Both players finished with five points in the contest. Senior attackman Chris Caiazza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and junior attackman Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) recorded two goals apiece.

Tied 2-2 in the final seconds of the first quarter, Caiazza netted his second marker of the period at the four-second mark to give the Pioneers (8-1) a slight 3-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, LIU Post pulled away from its opposition, outscoring Post (3-5) by a 6-2 count to bring a 9-4 advantage into halftime. Senior midfielder Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) got things started with a man-up goal just 1:12 into the session. Bellando added back-to-back goals, one of which was his East Coast Conference-leading third shorthanded tally of 2015.

The tandem of Slane and Beccaris shut the door on the Eagles in the second half. The North Babylon High School teammates combined for five goals in the latter 30 minutes, en route to widening their cushion to 14-6. Two of Beccaris' tallies came on special teams, including his first man-down goal since Apr. 26, 2014.

Senior defenseman Dan Jeannotte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was a near-perfect 20-of-21 (95.2 percent) on faceoffs. He scooped up 16 ground balls off those wins. As a team, the Pioneers were 23-of-27 (85.1 percent) on draws.

In addition to notching his first collegiate goal, senior defenseman Matt Scalera (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) caused four turnovers. Between the pipes, junior goalie Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) made nine saves.

Head Coach John Jez and his LIU Post squad return to action on Saturday (Mar. 28), when they square off with Dominican in an East Coast Conference tilt at the Torne Valley Sports Complex in Hillburn, N.Y. The opening faceoff is set for noon.
