BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 4, 2015) - Senior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) combined for nine goals Wednesday, as the No. 4/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team toppled Mercy, 13-2, in East Coast Conference action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Originally scheduled as a road contest for the Pioneers (2-0), the site of the game was moved to LIU Post due to field conditions.

Though neither team found the back of the cage for the first nine-plus minutes of the game, the green and gold owned a commanding 7-1 lead at halftime. Pierro had three goals in the opening 30, including two in a span of 2:06. Delaney added two tallies, the first and last of the period.

Early into the latter stanza, Pierro and junior attacker Jessica Marsh (Sayville, N.Y.) scored just 25 seconds apart to set the stage for the rest of the game. Douglas picked up three of her four goals on the afternoon in the last 7:49 of regulation.

Pierro finished with a game-high seven points (5 G, 2 A). She also won four draws and caused one turnover. Delaney accumulated two goals and three assists for a five-point day. Junior defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) totaled four ground balls and a game-best four caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) collected five ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Junior defender Brittany Smith (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Between the pipes, junior goalie Kasey Kephart (Nesconset, N.Y.) made two saves in the first 30 minutes. Freshman Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) stopped six shots in the latter half.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Mar. 7), when they battle No. 7/7 Le Moyne at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse. The opening draw is set for noon.
