BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 23, 2015) - The LIU Post softball team lost a contest and tied the latter of a twinbill against New Haven at the LIU Post Softball Complex on Thursday. The Pioneers were defeated 1-0 in Game One, and the nightcap was called due to darkness in the seventh at a 4-4 stalemate.
The commencing contest proved to be a pitcher's duel, as the only scoring play occurred in top of the fourth when the Chargers (14-15-2) sent an RBI single through the left side with the bases loaded to give New Haven the only offensive advantage they would need. For the green and gold (27-10-1), senior
Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) and junior
Isabella Corrao (Farmingdale, N.Y.) combined for a seven-inning effort. The pair collectively fanned five and allowed the Chargers just two hits in the 1-0 Pioneer loss.
Game Two saw an early Charger lead, as a New Haven two-run homer in the top of the third gave the visitors an advantage. LIU Post answered immedatley in the latter half of that frame when
Maria Palmeri (Middle Village, N.Y.) doubled to right center to tie the contest at two. In the top of the fourth and fifth, New Haven tacked on two more scores, but in the sixth, a Charger miscue off a
Mackenzie Buckley (St. James, N.Y.) single helped freshman
Clare Travis (East Meadow, N.Y.) and senior
Samantha Miller (East Meadow, N.Y.) cross the plate and, once again, tie the game at four. The non-conference contest was called an inning later for darkness.
Sophomore hurler
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) threw seven innings for the Pioneers. She whiffed seven in her defensive command of the circle.
