BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2015) - The LIU Post softball team split an East Coast Conference twinbill against Molloy on Saturday. The Pioneers dropped Game One, 7-2, and the nightcap saw a 12-inning, 6-5 green and gold victory.

The Lions (23-25) were on the board first in the commencing contest, as a RBI double gave Molloy a one-run advantage. The Pioneers (28-11-1) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when a Lion miscue allowed pinch-runner Samantha Marrone (Holbrook, N.Y.) to cross the plate and even things up at one, but Molloy answered in the seventh and tacked on six scores to their offensive efforts. The bottom of the seventh saw another Pioneer tally, but it was not enough to eclipse the 7-2 Lion advantage.

Sophomore hurler Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) tossed seven frames for the Pioneers. She fanned four and walked just two.

Game Two proved to be an offensive battle for both LIU Post and Molloy, as the contest was drawn out for five extra innings. A scoreless stalemate held through five frames, but the Pioneers connected in the bottom of the fifth for five scores off Jaclyn Hahn (Bayport, N.Y.), Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) and Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) doubles, as well as an Emily DeVito (Preston, Conn.) single. The Lions collected five scores of their own in the sixth and seventh to send the contest into extras. The scoreboard read 5-5 until the bottom of the 12th, when a bases-loaded walk helped Hahn cross the plate and secure the green and gold victory.

Senior Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) and junior Isabella Corrao (Farmingdale, N.Y.) combined for 12 innings and three strikeouts. Corrao was credited with the win, improving her 2015 campaign to 7-2.

Head Coach Jamie Apicella and LIU Post softball returns to the field Sunday, Apr. 26, in their last regular-season doubleheader and senior day against Queens College. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
