Laurino Dubbed NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day

IRVING, Texas (Apr. 28, 2015) - Red-shirt senior quarterback Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) of the LIU Post football team was named Scholar-Athlete of the Day by the National Football Foundation on Tuesday, in conjunction with corporate partner Fidelity Investments.

Laurino, the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Most Valuable Player, adds another accolade to the numerous number of distinctions he has won this year. The red-shirt senior set program records for single-season pass completions and total offense, while also establishing new career records for passing yards (9,673), pass completions (853) and passing touchdowns (86). Furthermore, he led the program to its first NE-10 Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly a decade. Laurino holds the program mark for career yards of total offense (11,191), and is the only player in LIU Post football history to amass over 10,000 yards of total offense in a career, as well.

Additionally, Laurino was named a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy Award, which is the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. The quarterback was a semifinalist for the NFF's William V. Campbell Trophy, as he was nominated as the best all-around scholar-athlete on the LIU Post football team. The History Education student maintained a 3.77 grade-point average and was also the recipient of both the Dr. Roy Ilowit Sportsmanship Award and the Outstanding Male Athlete Award at Monday's Student-Athlete Banquet.
