PHOENIX, Ariz. (Jun. 30, 2015) - Earlier this month, the defending ArenaBowl champion Arizona Rattlers have been assigned former LIU Post standout defensive lineman David Sumter (Hollis, N.Y.) for the 2015 Arena Football League season. This is Sumter's first season in the AFL and with the Arizona Rattlers.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Sumter proved to be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks in 2014, as the defensive lineman racked up a team-best 9.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits. The ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year also collected 39 tackles and led the squad with 15 tackles for loss.
His best statistical game of the year came against Bentley on Nov. 8, when he recorded three sacks for a loss of 18 yards, four quarterback hits and two pass break-ups in the team's 35-31 victory. Plus, Sumter forced two fumbles and recovered two during the 12-game campaign.
The Hollis native attended Campus Magnet High School, where he earned All-Borough honors as a senior. He played basketball and ran track and field, as well.
