BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2015) - On Saturday, the 22nd-ranked LIU Post women's soccer team beat Stonehill College, 4-2, in its 2015 home opener at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Pioneers (3-1) and Skyhawks (1-2-1) played to a scoreless first half, but the offense turned up for both teams in the latter 45 minutes of play.

Less than three minutes into the second half, senior forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) cleaned up a rebound to open the scoring for the game.

Then, in the 57th minute, it was Vistnes again. This time, she beat her defender down the left side and snuck one underneath the diving keeper to widen the LIU Post lead to 2-0.

Stonehill would cut the deficit in half in the 61st minute, but freshman forward Angela Careddu (Flushing, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal in the 74th minute to make it a 3-1 game.

Later, in the 81st minute, sophomore forward Alex Lynn (Sydney, Australia) was the recipient of an LIU Post bounce. A cross was sent in from the right side, and a Stonehill defender attempted to clear, but the ball went straight up. Lynn was waiting for it to come down and connected with a header to cap the Pioneers' scoring for the day.

LIU Post outshot Stonehill in the contest, 13-6, as its offense seemed to control the pace for most of the match.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to the pitch on Thursday (Sept.. 17), when they head to Caldwell, N.J. to take on Caldwell College in a non-conference tune-up. before hosting East Coast Conference rival NYIT on Saturday (Sept. 19). The opening kick is set for 4 p.m.
